Report from Australia disclosed that, Melbourne's public transport data is finally available on Google Maps. This issue of Google transit started in the country for a very long time as cities such as Sydney and Brisbane had the service since 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Public Transport Victoria (PTV) spokesperson Jake McLaughlan told Mashable Australia while the information had indeed been available since 2015, Google needed more data to make it happen. "Google had some additional data requirements and PTV and Google have worked together over the past few months to integrate transport information into the service," McLaughlan said.
Now that the Google transit is made available in Melbourne, the city will now keep pace with other cities that their transport data already on Google Maps. This innovative service will not only provide routes, but notifications on changes to the city's network.
"PTVs timetabling data will also be able to keep passengers using Google Maps up to date with planned service changes and alterations during special events and public holidays," McLaughlan added.
If you're still seeking real-time public transport information, however, McLaughlan said the PTV app is still the only way to go. "Passengers seeking real-time information on trams and metropolitan buses can do so by accessing the 'Next 5' feature in the PTV mobile application," he said.
